- Orji Kalu turned 57 years old today, April 21
- Kalu spent the day on a farm teaching other ordinary citizens how to farm
- Kalu says he has not celebrated his special day in 20 years
Former Abia state governor Orji Kalu has celebrated his 57th birthday in a special way on Friday, April 21.
Photos released by the billionaire businessman on his Facebook account late on Friday showed him farming with ordinary citizens in Ahaba, a town in his native Abia state.
NAIJ.com gathered that Kalu is celebrating his birthday for the first time in 20 years after choosing specifically to ignore his special day.
He wrote: "For over 20 years, I have tried not to celebrate my birthday. But today I am in the farm not only to mark my 57th birthday but to also share agricultural knowledge and expertise with our people.
"Up to this moment, many people are not yet convinced about the wealth hidden in farming. While some are scared of its demanding nature, others are yet to understand the importance of farming to ourselves and to the nation.
"I am glad spending my birthday in the farm, but I am more glad because of the knowledge our agricultural extension workers and I were able to impart on our people."
NAIJ.com recalls that Kalu made top news recently when he dumped his former political party the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The move has earned him some criticisms from his former party and huge praises from the new one.
